In Ghana, access to quality and affordable reproductive healthcare has long been a concern for women. The lack of accessible healthcare has resulted in high maternal mortality rates, particularly in rural communities where women face additional challenges in accessing medical facilities. However, with the establishment of Obaatanpa women’s hospital, these women can now access much-needed medical care services. The hospital’s goal is to meet the needs of women in Ghana who require reproductive health services such as pre and post-natal care, family planning, and emergency obstetric care. Additionally, Obaatanpa women’s hospital recognizes the unique needs of women and aims to provide them with patient-centered care, ensuring that patients’ treatments are respectful, informative, and focused on empowering women. The mission of Obaatanpa is to help reduce maternal mortality rates in Africa through the provision of dignifying healthcare to vulnerable populations.

Obaatanpa Women’s’ Hospital has been Operational Since 2013

Drs. Cyril Ofori and Amelia Laing graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School and still have family, friends and colleagues in Ghana. They visit often and have the opportunity to compare health care in Ghana with what they can provide in the USA. Reproductive health care is particularly impactful because it impacts young women especially and their even younger dependents bear the brunt of bad outcomes.

Donations have helped in providing in-patient beds, and  outpatient clinic services during scheduled hours for preventive care, antenatal visits and gynecologic problem visits, and simple gynecologic procedures (e.g. outpatient conisation of the cervix for cervical pre-cancerous conditions ). In-patient care for obstetric patients, and gynecologic cases is provided on a 24 hour/7days/week basis. Also a functional operating room which provides prompt operative delivery (Cesarean section) for obstetric patients when needed, and allow the performance of gynecologic surgeries, including minimally invasive surgery. Quite apart from these larger items, donations of soap, bleach, baby clothing or diapers and toiletries or smaller donation amounts to purchase these are a boon to the Facility to help our more needy patients.

Impact A Woman's Life In Anyway You Can

Your Donation allows us to extend care to more women who cannot afford to pay in full for care. We hold an annual fundraiser, where we raise funds largely for Equipment, and to support our non-paying patients. Any contribution no matter how small is welcome, and you may specify if you want your gift applied to a particular item.

We are a 501c3 charity, and donations to us are fully tax deductible. Our tax ID number is 45-4230683
